Writing a memoir

We teach week-long residential courses at Arvon, the home of creative writing established by the late poet laureate, Ted Hughes.

We’ve taught at all three Arvon retreats – in Devon, in Yorkshire (where Hughes lived) and in Shropshire (in the renovated home of the late John Osborne).

Where possible, we like to say hello in advance to the people we work with, by creating some kind of online welcome page. It give participants a sense of who they’ll be working with, and a chance to say hi to each other.

These two screen-grabs show the start of one such page, with a short pre-recorded video welcome, and a few replies from Arvon course participants:

After the course finished, Alice and I continued to work with participants who wanted that.
